Experts Discuss Mental Health Consequences of COVID-19

Before the outbreak of COVID-19 we already were in a mental health crisis. And while it appears that children have been spared the majority of physical health complications caused by COVID-19, a second pandemic has the potential to have life-altering consequences: a steep rise in unaddressed mental health needs.

Watch Rady Children’s mental health experts Benjamin Maxwell, MD, interim director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Sandra Mueller, LCSW, senior director of Behavioral Health Services discuss the uptick in extreme cases they are treating as a result of social isolation during stay-at-home orders, and what they are doing to protect some of the most vulnerable children in their care.
